I know I'm not the only one tired in the black community with folks trying to pass off abuse as parenting. I also already know the maxim "Spare the rod spoil the child" inspired by Proverbs 13:24. There is also Ephesians 6:2-4. Proverbs 13:24: " He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently ." Ephesians 6:2-4: " 2 “Honor your father and mother” (which is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on the earth.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; instead, bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Please pay attention to the last verse I quoted in Ephesians. It probably doesn't look familiar because when it is quoted verse 4 is seldom recited.
