Y'all remember Transformers right? Well the bad guys are back.
Its a shame because things were going fine and balance was slowly being restored to the universe.
You would think that after all these milestones and grand achievements that man kind would have some sort of grip on logic.
NAW...
When I watch the news now it reminds me of the Red Scare in the 50s. Back then the worse thing you could be was a communist. Now the worst thing you could be is transphobic (with fatphobic in a close second).
I'm glad most of authors that shaped our generations minds have passed on and no longer have to witness this nonsense.
And I'm not going to preface what comes next with what I do and do not support. I will just clearly state that what I do not support is NONSENSE.
Now the transphobic finger is being pointed at J.K. Rowling for her comments on twitter I believe.
Ah, Twitter just when we thought you were beginning your swan song some petty ass activists breathe life back into you.
Now, whenever I see a headline accusing a celebrity of some sort of label of bigotry, instead of hitting up my peers and jumping on the blame train I decide to what is sensible.
...Find out what it is that they actually said.
I know...Its revolutionary.
Turns out the woman didn't go on some self esteem altering and existential destroying tirade on trans
culture and identity. What she actually did was make a joke about what the definition of a woman used to be. She then goes on to attempt to get everyone on the same page about violence against all women including those who identify as women.
But what really burned the petty activists grits and shit in their quinoa, was her statement about gender fluidity and restrooms.
Man, something about those bathrooms are really getting to them.
Here's the thing. If you are going to be loud and proud you gotta take the risk. You gotta take the same risks that the elders of the LGBT etc. community took. If you still have a penis maybe its a good idea to use a bathroom that has a urinal in it. OR we can implement more unisex bathrooms.
I'm not going to fault her for saying that allowing anyone who identifies as a woman irregardless of their anatomy "opens the door" to public restrooms to any man who identifies as a woman.
I want everyone to be happy AND safe. The truth is that the most dangerous thing for a woman is a man and has been for centuries. We as a legal body turn our backs on rape, molestation, and sexual assault and harassment yet we want to argue about who can use what restroom.
How about we come together and try to find a way for us all to peacefully exist in a society where the right to consent applies to EVERYONE.
Not just those with power and a voice. Why is no one going as hard at the people who blatantly sexualize children? What about those who openly flaunt their alternative lifestyles of having sexual contact knowingly and willingly underaged human beings?
A few years ago I was using the computer in the public library. I happened to go into the documents menu. This menu is usually cleared of saved documents at the end of every day. This day in particular I saw that someone had made a flier with the picture of what was obviously a very young girl in her early teens. This flier not only had a clear picture of her face but also her age, weight, height and hometown. The flier then goes on to call her a whore and suggest that she be made fun of and "put in her place."
Whoever made this flier was able to do so on a public library network unbothered. I wonder what happened to that girl. I told the library staff about the flier but they were unable to trace who made it because the temporary logon IDs are not traceable.
Scary.
but I digress. This is about Transphobia right. I'm not afraid of Trans people. I'm afraid of crazy people, irrational people, people who lack critical thinking but possess a platform. I'm afraid of the people that witness gang rape and murder of trans men and women no matter what their occupation is and say nothing.
I'm afraid of nonsense. And yes, boycotting a video game that has no direct statement against the trans community based off the statement of the person who created the fiction behind it is nonsense.
It achieves nothing. If you are going to boycott the game do so because it is substandard.
Its funny how no one seems as disturbed about the portrayal of the house elf as the happy slave to the wizards. That didn't keep Rowling from selling books. It didn't even bother me who is a descendant of slaves in America.
It didn't bother me because the ridiculous nature of the portrayal (as I interpreted it) is a play on the ridiculousness of the slave trade in general. The world of Rowling is wrought with discrimination and subjugation just as our world is.
I think we have bigger fish to fry than the ones that may or may not be swimming around in Moaning Myrtle's restroom.
THE END.
