1. We are one of the fattest nations on earth.
2. Grocery prices are high.
I watch quite a few documentaries. I was watching one last month that focused on a small town in North Carolina.
A charity organization was providing 1 free meal a day to neighborhoods to offset the loss of the free meal because children of school age were home for the summer.
There were quite a few interviews of families. After a while, I noticed a pattern that was disturbing.
The first family I noticed this with was a married couple with 3 children. The father was telling the interviewer about how he manages on just one meal a day. His wife nodded in the background holding their infant.
At first I felt my hearth strings pull. But then after a few seconds I noticed that something was partially blocking the face of the baby and it was not a censor block or blur.
It was this man's belly. I then noticed the belly out in front of the baby's mother (who was not pregnant).
I looked at the other two children who were of school age and all I saw was elbows and knee caps.
Hmmm.....
On another channel of reality- as it plays out -there is a fresh Season of My 600 LB Life airing regularly.
In a darker universe, there are drug addicts on the street on Kensington Ave looking like skeletons. It's not because of the price of food ,but because of the cheapness of various opioids and narcotics.
I have yet to see one person on TV whose ribs are showing from hunger from food prices.
I'm not saying that there aren't people out here suffering from starvation. I'm saying that most likely those folks had been starving for a while prior to the Pandemic and the resulting inflation.
I'm saying that -from what I see- most of the people complaining are either overweight or at least at stage one obesity.
Maybe not being able to buy 10 trays of meat for the barbeque is a blessing. Maybe having a modest Thanksgiving is a God send.
Quite possibly not being able to snack all day on processed foods is saving lives in the long run.
And yes, I realize that the hike in prices seem to target fresh foods such as dairy and fruits and vegetables.
I'm still seeing frozen fruits and vegetables in the dollar store looking over stocked compared to frozen dinners, cookies, cakes and chips.
You can still get evaporated milk in that can at less than $2.
I think we have gotten so comfortable with the availability of food that we have a skewed idea of what it means to be hungry.
One meal a day is not starving. If you aren't doing hard labor, one meal a day can be sufficient with healthy snacks.
You don't have to have the whole dairy aisle for breakfast.
You don't have to have a huge lunch.
You don't have to have a gigantic dinner.
Daddy doesn't need the big piece of chicken if Daddy is fat as hell.
Mommy doesn't need her nightly bowl of ice cream if Mommy can't touch her toes.
I am tired of seeing fat ass parents complain about the price of food and their kids look like marionettes.
Downsize, budget, diet, start a garden.
This is what happens when we feast without famine. We get fat, lazy and entitled.
Maybe this inflation will teach some of us how to be grateful, frugal, and how to stop overeating.
